Gifted & Talented

Gifted & Talented
The school has a strong emphasis on gifted and talented programs which provide students with frequent opportunities to apply skills and understanding and develop knowledge and experience. Students are encouraged to develop independent thinking and learning and to use initiative.

In the Senior School
Competitions
Students compete in state and national academic competitions in many subject areas, for example Mathematics Olympiads. These give students experience in exam conditions and in testing their knowledge and also provide benchmarking information for teachers. Danebank's outcomes in these competitions greatly exceed state averages.

Streamed Classes
Classes are mostly streamed with the top Year 7 class consisting maximum 20 students. Students undertake enriching student-centred programs with extension components through which they are challenged to maintain rigorous academic outcomes.

Acceleration
An accelerated Science program enables a group of students each year to complete HSC Chemistry in Year 11. These students are then challenged to undertake Distinction courses such as Philosophy, Cosmology and Comparative Literature.
Some individual students also accelerate in other subjects.

Mentoring
Mentoring opportunities exist for gifted and talented students to assist others notably in sports.

Other Courses
Many opportunities exist for students to develop their skills and experiences through representative sports.
Students attend lecture programs run by universities and professional associations.
Additional courses with specialist outsider providers are advertised for families to consider undertaking.

Additional Opportunities and Activities
A range of enriching additional opportunities exist such as:
Academic Camps such as forensic, writing and art
Da Vinci Decathlon
AHIGS Festival of Speech
Performance opportunities for music students both inside and outside the school
Production and acting roles in Drama activities
Debating, Public Speaking and Mock Trial
Claybox – An activity for talented art students.
Elite sportswomen's programs

Overseas Exchange
A number of students have taken opportunities for overseas exchange particularly those undertaking languages studies.
