Leanring Support

Learning Support
Programs
The role of the teachers aides and learning support teachers, is to work both in the classroom supplementing and assisting the classroom teacher, and in the case of the learning support staff, withdrawing individual students or small groups for intensive remedial assistance. A range of personalised programs assist students with learning difficulties. Sometimes they are short term problems. Other times they are ongoing.

Staff
Staff act as a team to support children with learning needs. Apart from classroom teachers, a range of support professionals assist students including:
the School Counsellor
Specialist ESL staff
Teachers Aides

Other Factors
Year 7
Selected students in Year 7 undertake either a 12 week intensive reading program to improve literacy skills, or the Macquarie University Multilit program focusing on word attack skills and basic sight words.

Examination Support
Learning support staff also carried out the testing of students as part of their applications for Board of Studies Special Provisions for both the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate exams. These provisions are provided to students that have an identified learning difficulty or medical condition. As a result students were able to access provisions such as reader/writer support, rest and movement breaks, special lighting and seating, exams with enlarged print or printed on specially coloured paper and home and hospital supervision if required.

Liasing with other supporters
Where applicable, staff enlist the assistance of outside providers. This may happen for testing procedures or when additional expertise is required.
