Middle Schooling

Developments between Years 5 and 8 are of crucial significance to the students educational progress.

Changes
During these years, students experience greater responsibility and decision-making opportunities than in their earlier years. It is also a time when students develop their self-concept and sense of identity. Peer acceptance becomes central to their lives and thinking becomes more abstract and reflective.
Programs
The school structures facilitate best possible outcomes for students. Programs include
1. Extensive communication between Junior School and Senior School staff regarding appropriate teaching approaches.
2. Transition from Junior School to Senior School involves extensive orientation to assist students make the change easily. Year 11 buddies assist Year 7 students.
3. Years 5 & 6 students experience being taught by a range of teachers although their class teacher still manages core educational matters.
4. A range of strategies linking Middle School students such as a specific Middle School Chapel, as well as competitions such as photographic, debating and public speaking competitions.
5. Reduced overlap of teaching topics across the junior and senior schools.
6. The Middle School Innovator makes recommendations to the Middle School Committee.
