Year 12 Common Room

On the way to class

Wingara Senior Studies Centre

It was with great excitement that our Year 12 group first entered the Wingara Common Room, opened in January 2003. "All this for us" was a sentiment commonly expressed by the girls. They were impressed by the large size of the area, the layout, the kitchen facilities and the comforts, especially the air conditioning. Wingara contains a number of classrooms, study rooms and direct access to the Resources Centre which houses the Library. The common room provides the students with a base from which they can make the most of their time in Year 12. The use of the Common Room is one of a number of privileges which Year 12 students enjoy. They may also sign in late or out early if their timetables allow.

Wingara symbolizes the giant step students take in Year 12 towards young adulthood. Ideally, student focus will be on adult matters - how to meet study challenges, what plans to establish for future lives and how to consolidate valuable lifelong friendships.

Year 12 students are 17-19 years of age. They are young adults. The privileges they enjoy represent a step towards their taking independent control of their lives. Wingara's Common Room offers these students a base from which to build a successful Year 12 experience.

At the official opening, our School Captain described the centre as "a winner". She thanked the school, on behalf of students, for providing a "practical, convenient centre which brings students together and "makes our final years of school just that little bit more special".
