Service to Others
Ut Prosim
The school’s motto is ut prosim, meaning That I May Serve. It is exemplified in many ways in the school every day. At the simplest level, students are encouraged to care for one another, to act as a team. At the broader level, students are encouraged to look to the wider community and to respond to the needs of others there.
A service learning programme gives students service opportunities that stem from the subjects they are studying. For example, a group of Year 9 students visited a local centre for overseas students recently and assisted the overseas students with their English speaking and writing skills. Year 10 students also assist Year 1 with their reading programme. Special Focus is given to Years 9 and 10 who participate in broad ranging community service activities.
Our students also contribute to the wider community in other ways. They fundraise for charities, volunteer to help people in retirement villages, they make and sell items for charities and participate in events, the proceeds going to charity. The school also gives special support to the Katoke Trust, an Australian-based organization that supports the development of children’s education in Tanzania. Students decide which causes they wish to support.
