Gifted and Talented

In the Junior School

A structured gifted and talented programme begins in Year 2 with enrichment opportunities that challenge and engage the most able students. Two gifted and talented specialists work with students in small groups within the classroom or they separate gifted and talented groups from the two mainstream classrooms, thus enabling the class teacher to focus intensively on other students. It is significant that teacher/pupil ratios are conducive to strong outcomes across all grades.

Gifted and talented students sit for academically challenging competitions such as the Maths Olympiade and the Da Vinci decathlon. They attend special workshops, fieldtrips and excursions.

Staff collaborate and track the progress of all students ensuring their best academic interests are met.

Secondary School

In the secondary school:

  • Classes are graded and special enrichment programmes and opportunities challenge gifted students within class groups.
  • An accelerated Science class sits for School Certificate Science in Year 9 and proceeds to sit for Higher School Certificate Chemistry in Year 11.
  • Individual acceleration may be offered to outstanding students in relevant subject areas.
  • Gifted and talented students sit for many academically challenging competitions, attend special workshops, field trips and excursions.
