We were incredibly blessed to have Eloise Wellings address our Senior School students at the Principal’s Assembly on Wednesday 17 March.
Eloise is a two-time Olympic athlete, competing at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the 5,000m and 10,000m events. She is a nine-time National champion in these two events and has competed for Australia at four Commonwealth Games. Her best result is being 4th the 5,000m at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Eloise is the Founding Director of the Love Mercy Foundation. Love Mercy exists to see Northern Ugandans live an empowered life, free to claim their basic human rights to a secure food supply, income, education, health and equality through sustainable development projects.
Elosie inspired our girls as she shared her personal journey of challenge and triumph. She shared the lessons that have taught her how to maintain focus, persevere with courage, and build resilience along the way as she was chasing her dreams. She encouraged our girls to find their passion, push past the fear of failure and protect their goal.
A personal favourite was her encouragement to our girls around staying in their own lane. She reminded us of how easy it can be to get lost scrolling through social media, looking at everybody else’s highlight reel, comparing ourselves to someone else. She inspired us to be brave and bold in order to reach our full potential.
Eloise challenged us to be comfortable in our own skin, believing in our own gifts and strengths, trusting in God’s plan for the future, whilst being generous with our words of kindness and encouragement of others. My hope is that our girls were able to walk away inspired, encouraged and ready to challenge themselves.
