Hand washing is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of infections. Remind your children about the importance of washing their hands. Make it fun and make it routine.

Try to teach your children that they need to wash their hands with soap and water for about 20 seconds... no doubt you will be asked 'How long is 20 seconds?' a simple and answer would be to tell them to sing Happy Birthday twice (silently, in their head!) that will take about 20 seconds to sing.

When do we most need to wash our hands?

  • before and after eating
  • after using the bathroom
  • after playing outside
  • after sneezing or coughing.
  • after playing with pets or been in contact with animals
