Your girls deserve the best.
Introducing our staff.

Meet the Principal

DR EMMA BURGESSS

Dr Emma Burgess is Danebank’s seventh principal. She came to us with a wealth of wisdom and experience, having completed her doctoral research in quality teaching and learning and having held senior leadership roles across several Australian schools.

Dr Burgess has been with Danebank since the beginning of 2020 and in just three years, has had an extraordinary impact across every area of our school.

With her deep love and true compassion for our Danebank girls in her heart and at the core of all decisions, Dr Burgess has been building on a strong foundation and has steered the school into greater levels of excellence: infusing fresh, research-based ideas, improving learning and systems, developing teams, and building teacher capacity - all while preserving the special and unique features of the Danebank experience.

We quickly came to realise that God had blessed us with a strategic, people-centred, forward-thinking leader and we know we are in very good hands.

Dr Burgess has led a change-agenda, focusing on enriching two key pillars of our community: wellbeing and learning, underpinned by the truth of the Gospel and faith in our God.

The entire school is actively weaving a research-based approach to learning and wellbeing into the fabric of all we do here at Danebank and it is exciting to be part of it.

This month’s profile

MS BIANCA JERVIS

Our Life Skills Teacher, Bianca, has a background in paediatric nursing and has worked with people with disabilities for the past 20 years. She says: "I believe in making sure all people have access to quality education through supporting them to engage with learning experiences.

"Everyone can learn, and through the Danebank Life Skills program we target real life skills across all areas of the curriculum, from functional English and Maths skills to social skills, travel training and work skills. It brings me such joy to see our students gain confidence within this supportive, structured environment, to make friends and explore their interests

"I believe in developing independence through structure and routine, and instiling within the girls the belief in our class motto of 'Yes I Can!’ “

The Life Skills girls learn valuable life lessons in the area of social skills, and through the Christian Studies program and inclusion in wider school activities, learn that they are loved by God: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:13-14

Bianca says working with such a dedicated team of educators and support staff makes coming to work, even on the most challenging day, a positive experience: "At Danebank we support each other to provide the girls with engaging and interesting lessons across all subject areas".

"I am looking forward to the future at Danebank. I am excited by the implementation of our Danebank Approach to Learning, the new buildings and continuing to inspire and educate young women with disabilities to be all they are purposed to be.”

When she is not teaching, Bianca enjoys riding on electric scooters, seeing theatre productions and reading.
